    Abstract: 天台宗甚重視懺悔法門,以懺悔行法助成止觀實踐,這種方向最早由南岳慧思所確立。事理二懺的區分也在慧思著述中見到雛形。慧思將懺悔視為主要菩薩行法之一,與發菩提心、大慈悲心、持戒、忍辱、精進、禪定、智慧等修行德目並列。修習懺悔的功德,可除滅障道重罪,推進菩薩實踐體驗。懺悔行法更重要的意義,是與禪觀連結,助成禪定與發起神通,獲取廣度眾生的超凡力量。慧思非常關注禪定與空觀,能與此銜接無礙的實相懺悔應更受其青睞。他在著作中解說觀心實相破一切業障的觀想內容,觀身和心、罪與不罪都本來空寂,觀心性不生不滅,最後也將此法門導向禪定和神通的發起,成就自在無礙的高層菩薩境地。慧思的懺悔論述有其個人的生命經歷與實修體驗作為基礎,為當代學佛者提供良好的啟發與指點。
    The Tian-tai School (天台)pays much attention to repentance practice, uses it to enhance the practice accomplishment of samādhi and vipaśana, and this direction was firstly established by Nanyue Huisi(南岳慧思). Besides, the distinction between repentance in terms of practice (事懺) and repentance in terms of truth (理懺) can find its early form in Huisi’s works. Huisi viewed the repentance practice as one of the important practices for bodhisattvas, juxtaposed with mind of enlightenment, mind of compassion, taking precepts, tolerance, effort, concentration and wisdom. The achievement of practicing repentance is to remove the great obstacles generated from bad actions in past lives, and to enhance the deep bodhisattva attainments. One more important meaning of repentance practice is that it should be combined with meditation to help the entering into concentration and the development of psychic power, for the purpose of rescuing uncountable sentient beings. Huisi focused his attention on meditation and contemplating on Emptiness, so the repentance in terms of truth should be more emphasized. In his works, he wrote that one could remove all obstacles generated from bad actions through contemplating on the emptiness of body and mind, the sinful and the non-sinful. Huisi also viewed the repentance in terms of truth as the foundation of developing concentration and psychic power, which are the way leading to the high level of bodhisattva experience. Huisi’s discourses on repentance are based on his life experiences and practice attainments, and can shed some light on modern Buddhist practices.
