According to studies, in Taiwan approximately 97% of all firms are mid- to small-cap firms, of which family firms are the majority. In recent years, many Taiwanese mid- to small-cap firms have gone abroad for investment or engaged in overall transformation, and these trends are increasing yearly. How shouldmid- to small-cap firms face the deteriorating investment environment and problems of increasingly expensive human resources and raw materials? Thus, this study uses the operation of family firms and the background for their transformation as the topic to explore key factors in their transformation. Furthermore, this study explores the coping strategies for firms when they face major challenges. This study attempts to use case analysis and exploration, through results from exploring actual firms, to understand corporate transformations. Other than providing suggestions and references for the management strategies of the handicraft industry, it also provides future studies with possible issues and directions for further exploration.
