Due to the political democratization and diversification of social classes, decentralization of education policy and open textbooks market to private publishers became a public issue. In order to improve the quality of textbooks and achievement of teaching objectives, it is necessary to understand the selection factors and satisfaction of textbooks provided by different publishers. This study aims to explore the textbook selection and usage satisfaction by Yunlin County elementary school teachers of natural and science discipline. The research intent is to provide references for both textbook publishers and teachers who in charge of textbook selection. The questionnaire survey was chosen as the research method of the study. A self-edited questionnaire titled “Elementary teachers of natural and science discipline on textbooks selection and satisfaction survey” as the information collection tool. Several related statistical techniques were applied to analyze the data collected by questionnaires. The major findings were listed as follows:1. Differences on nature and science teachers from different backgrounds vary by textbook selection factors. In the selection factor scale, the highest average score is the physical attributes however the lower score is the instructional design ones.2. Significant differences found in publisher level for different school sizes attributes dimension.3. Significant difference found between different schools in the instructional design attributes and textbook content attributes dimension.4. Significant differences found in textbooks satisfaction of nature and science teachers from different backgrounds. In the satisfaction factor scale, the highest average score is in physical level attributes however instructional design attributes score is the lower one.5. Significant differences found in instructional design attributes dimension for school sizes.6. Significant differences found between different school locations in the instructional design, teaching materials, physical level, and publishers level attributes dimensions.7. A positive and significant correlation found between textbook selection factors and textbooks satisfaction. The “textbook satisfaction - teaching materials attributes” and “textbook selection factors - teaching design attributes” have the highest correlations. The findings of the study provide practical recommendations for needs of teachers and textbook publishers.
