Today there is still a group of single veterans who live in groups silently in Taiwan. Whether they live in a hospital or Veterans Home gregarious, are the veterans whom were taken care of by Veterans Affair Commission really satisfied with the arrangement for them? Are they willing to let others arrange their living environment arbitrarily? The veterans are very dependent on the sense of living environment. Although they always think that this place is just only a temporary shelter sites and will not live for long time, the veterans lived in this place for decades have gradually produced profound emotions and put temporarily in place as their home through long-term coexistence. "Veterans" is a term of historical witness and a War-era figure. Since the era of cross-strait divide and conquer tragedy caused many veterans were forced to stay in Taiwan. At that time, some veterans had been married and some were students or single young man. The veterans had to be separated from their families and came to Taiwan in the context of that War-era. Some Veterans stayed in Taiwan have already established their new families, but some who were not get married for whole life are just to wait for the day to get together with their families in Mainland China. In recent years, Taiwan's population is rapidly aging and declining. A fortunate encounter brought the health care-related personnel and the veterans together and treated each other like a family, although they have no blood relationship and come different growth environment. These people lived together long after the derived is a very special community living habits and social relationship of emotion. Through in-depth interviews, long-term companionship and life experiences of the related personnel, this research have found some important conclusions as follows:1. With the change of time and environment, the definition, member, and cognition of "Home" are changed. A group of people they treat each other like a family after the long-term coexistence, regardless of growth environment. No matter what the blood relationship is, they reshape and redefine the imagery of "nuclear family".2. To review from "intimate experience" perspective, the veterans who evolved the same life path and the same life context will constitute a similar community relation and form the "local identity."3. Lifestyle and experience of Veterans, with a common interpretation and understanding, find a series of place meaningful. Having a common concept of privacy and ownership creates a location meaningful. The lives of the elderly can connect with the same knowledge and the meaningful living place. |
