My father is a veteran who has devoted his entire life for our country in the old days. With this special status in the background of war time, the old veterans lived under special circumstances. Nevertheless, as time passes, the old veterans have now gradually faded from the historical site and are forgotten by the society. Moreover, in recent years, the conflicts between the Mainlanders and local residents are the hot topics during every major political election. Sometimes, even causes family discord and creates chaos for our society. Aside from being the second-generation Mainlander, I have a Taiwanese mother. Therefore, I have more concerns about these issues. I would like hence to leave the true witness and occupy a historical position for my father through this thesis writing. This study will discuss the following questions:1. Take my father as example, what are the affects on the definition of “home” by his special experiences?2. In my case, being the combination of Taro and Sweet Potato, the second-generation Mainlanders, what are the problems of the “ethic identity”?3. What are the influences of my father's special concern toward "home" on me? Therefore the purpose of this study goes as followings: 1. To write and records my father's life course and history in a retrospective attitude. 2. To express and convey the aspiration of the disadvantaged veterans and their descendents.3. To explore the interpretation of researcher's perspective on “home.” This study will focus only on my father's special life encounters, not to shape the heroic image of the veterans, only a daughter with love and respect to fulfill a simple review of the life stories about her veteran's father. Writing about my father's life story is not only a ritual to memory, but also a process of classic creation. Furthermore, classic which includes individual identity has strongly demanded the positive attitude to accept and succeed the former wisdoms of our ancestors, then return to the traditional areas of people's spiritual world.
