Background and Objective: It is important for us to have a healthy life. In recent years, the rate of chronic diseases is growing faster and chronic diseases become the primary causes of death in Taiwan. There are many risk factors of chronic diseases associated with personal lifestyle choices. And hence a Healthy Lifestyle Profiles will reduce significantly the risk of getting chronic diseases. In addition, some investigations point out that the heart rate variability parameters may be anomalous in patients with chronic diseases. In this study, therefore, the relationship between Healthy Promotion Lifestyle Profiles and heart rate variability parameters for the university students are investigated. Furthermore, the effects of different Healthy Lifestyle Profiles to the chronic diseases are explored. Materials and Methods: This study adopted a cross-sectional design. 123 university students aged between 18 and 25 are recruited from November 2011 to December of 2011. The Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile-Short Form (HPLP-S) and Daily Care CMH 3.0 are used to evaluate the score of lifestyle Profiles and heart rate variability parameters, respectively. Results: This study found that the heart rate variability parameters of university students are significantly affected by gender, life behaviors, stress management, exercise, self-actualization and health responsibility. Moreover, the results also indicated that the heart rate variability parameters may be changed when some self-symptoms occur. For example, headache, attention deficit, stomach discomfort and fatigue general weakness will be leading to decreasing heart rate variability parameters. Conclusion: For university students, the Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile should focus on stress management, exercise, self-actualization and health responsibility. It is also important to establish the good lifestyle habits, including avoid stay up all night, stop smoking and exercise habits. It will be a healthy warning for you when you often feel headache, attention deficit, stomach discomfort and fatigue general weakness.
