Buddhism has the practical ability to change and enefit human beings. In this study, we try to use the Treatise of the One Hundred Dharmas, which emphasized on the ways to benefit and liberate sentient beings, as a guide to otivate Buddhist volunteers of non-profit organizations (NPO). The motivational system can be classified into three aspects: 1) understanding oneself; 2) transcending oneself; 3)offering altruistic service. By analyzing the intellectual, physical and psychological aspects of each volunteer, one can find an effective solution to overcome any obstacles, and NPO can then enable the volunteers to accomplish their missions and objectives entrusted upon them. Using both qualitative and quantitative analyses in a practical approach, we attempt to develop a system for motivating volunteers that can be used by other NPOs. Some suggestions are listed below:1)For NPO: Borrowing from religious philosophy or viewpoints, which encompasses the philosophy of NPO, compassion, philanthropy and universal love, NPO should explore different possibilities of incorporating such philosophy into the organization and adapting the philosophy. 2)For the managers/leaders of the NPO: For the growth and development of the organization as a whole, it is important to establish a long-term motivational system and plan educational courses for the members. 3)For the volunteers of NPO: In accordance with the spirits of universal compassion and unconditional love, the volunteers of NPO should always be grateful and expect nothing in return for their services.
