With the progress of time and prompt changes of the society, we see the increase of patients of neurotic diseases such as anxiety disorder and panic disorder. The purpose of this study is to understand the principal experiences and feelings of these patients as well as how they face and respond to the diseases. Qualitative study is adopted in this study. The researcher interviewed six members of self-help group of anxiety disorder with in-depth interview. After decoding, arrangement, statistics and analysis, the researcher has the following findings: 1.Experience of the illness is divided into three stages: 1) encounter with the illness—beginning of the anxiety, 2) dancing with the illness—procedures of being treated and 3) breaking away from the besieged mind—walking out of the illness shadows.2.In the first stage, interviewees would have a great amount of physical or mental discomfort and suffered from negative feelings. In the second stage, they would go through three steps—knowing the illness, accepting the illness and surviving with the illness. The major factors to successfully survive with the illness include seeking to understand and having accurate understanding of the illness, self-awareness of patients and mental support system of the family members and the society network. 3.At last, the values, life philosophy, and attitudes towards life of the interviewees are changed due to the illness. In addition to paying more attention to the life and recreation, they no longer focused on seeking money and fame only. Instead, they knew to treat themselves better, changed the way they get along with their families, understood the constant changes in life, became satisfied and knew to live to the moment. In the third stage, they started to help other people as we as themselves and reinterpreted the illness, believing that the illness brought new life philosophy to them, instead of torture. The illness was refining their life and the interviewees even were grateful for the illness, which enabled them to have an opportunity to turn to butterflies from pupas and enjoy the delight of qualitative change. The results of this study can only serve as reference for anxiety disorder patients and help professional personnel engaged in treatment of mental disorder understand the needs and feelings of the anxiety disorder patients as well as look at the problems and disorder from the viewpoint of the patients. Thus, they will be able to provide the patients with more suitable service.
