Although ethnic minority films have a good reputation in China over the years, they have always been outside the mainstream market. When the sixth-generation director Zhang Yang's “Kang Rinpoche” was released in June 2017, it was in the same period of the Hollywood blockbuster. Under the squeeze, the success has been transformed into a high box office through high reputation. This thesis takes the film Gang Rinpoche as the research object. First of all, this article will discuss the film Gang Rinpoche as a niche film. What kind of narrative mode is used by the director Zhang Yang to combine the “landscape” and “people” of Tibet. “It was placed in the film to create a “high-grossing” Tibetan film, and it successfully stirred up a wave of popular movies in the blockbuster era, created many box office miracles, and created a return on investment that was much higher than that of mainstream blockbusters. ; Secondly, the film “Kang Rinpoche” incorporates the religious and philosophical ideas of Tibetan Buddhism into the story of the pilgrimage. How does the director Zhang Yang interpret the Tibetan people's persistence in faith through films, so that contemporary audiences can resonate with the people in the modern Chinese society that is chasing the material from the knowledge of faith?
