Abstract:	賴和一系列針砭世局的小說中，企圖心最大莫過於〈蛇先生〉一作，其中貫穿的人文關懷，將人心的軟弱及偏執面，刻劃的入木三分。人心之畏「惡病」，猶如畏懼「惡法」，「法律」與「醫學」如何真正的直指人心，其關鍵點在於能不能擺脫「人惑」的迷思，無怪乎法律修訂益繁，秘方也愈見神奇。共同癥結，都反映出凡人不能面對現實，他們都在追尋什麼？同時也在逃避什麼？身兼醫師及小說家「雙重身分」的賴和，勢必不能滿足於這個處境，他必須更冷靜、更理性地去究元決疑，才能有效勘定人心的活水源頭。 She Xian Sheng, one of the Lia's sttire novel shows his attempt. In this work, it penetrates the weakness and bias of humanity vividly. It is human's weakness afraid of noxious disease and bad laws. But, how can the law and Medicine direct people's real inner nature; the point lies in weather we can escape the myth of temptation. No wonder, the law becomes more and more strict, and complicated. So does the medicine; the prescription has more healing magic. However, both of the law and medicine have reflected one thing in common-that is ordinary people can not face the reality. They even don't know what they are chasing for, let alone what they are escaping for? Lai-her with dual position, doctor and novelist, of course will not satisfy with this kind of circumstance. He should be calm down and be rational to detect and solve the doubt. Thus, he can trance back to the origin of human's inner most heart.
