For many animal guardians who take care of their companion animals, they may feel anxious when their companion animals are seriously ill and facing death, or they may feel very sad because of the loss caused by the death of their companion animals. The study used an unorthodox counseling tool - animal communication to explore whether animal guardians can transform their own sadness and obtain treatment for their sick animals when animal communicators convey their voices? This research adopted the qualitative semi-structured in-depth interview method, interviewed five animal guardians and obtained the following findings:1. The ability of animal communicators affected the quality of communication. When animal communicators described the details of the interactions between animal guardians and their companion animals, they gained the trust of animal guardians. Even for those who originally doubted animal communication changed their minds.2. For some animal guardians, the purpose of death communication is to completethe unresolved issues - to clarify any misunderstandings beforetheirdeath, or to deliver messages that needed to be told after their animal died. There was a healing effect due to expressing their love to each other when facing the very last moment. For some other animal guardians, they cared more about their time together than after their companion animal died, so animal communication didn’t help them effectively reduce sadness.3. For some animal guardians, they selectively believed in animal communication. They didn’t believe in communicating with the departed soul, but they believed that animal communicators could help animal guardians change animal behavior. Therefore, for these animal guardians, a good animal communicator was a person who could make animals change their behavior.4. Animal guardians could develop self-awareness by understanding their companion animals, which prompted animal guardians to change their cognitive behavior towards their companion animals and promote their own personal growth.5. Each animal guardian found significant value during the process of animal communication, or obtained healing from their communication result. Healing, repairing, inspiring, supporting were the emotional feedbacks, as well as getting specific solutions to problems (to relieve the pressure of life).
