The old dormitory of the Chiayi municipal prison has the history more than one hundred years. It has the value of residents and the authentic life style. In October, 2016, I did the field research in the actual site of the cluster dormitory. The desolated face of the hight empty house rate presented the unheard voice of the residents. Later on, the combined power from both the government and the civil folks practices the program “repairing for renting” and the program “The site of represent the history created by the wooden city”. Through these programs, the space of the dormitory is back to life and the old residents get back the cognition of the land. Right now, the old dormitory cluster provides the place for old residents to live, and the new ideas created by the new residents. By the continuty and passing on, the space used for more multiple purposes. However, following by the passing away of the old residents, the once unique life style is no longer exist. This thesis is meant to reserve the memories of the old residents about the old cluster dormitory and also to salute the old residents who insist to hold fast it.
