In previous Disney movies, the main characters were often portrayed as flawless and exceptional. However, in the animated film “Encanto,” the plot challenges this trope by exploring the theme of self-acceptance through characters who are flawed and ordinary. This study focuses on the Disney animation “Encanto” and examines the process of self-acceptance among the characters. Using semiotics, color science, and lens analysis, the study also explores how the characters' interactions within their original family structure impact their ability to accept themselves. This study examines the process of self-acceptance portrayed by the main characters, Mirabel, Bruno, Isabela, and Luisa, in the animation “Encanto.” Through a lens of self-acceptance, the research reveals that Mirabel learns to express her true emotions and accepts herself, gaining acceptance from her family in the process. Bruno, on the other hand, re-embraces both his strengths and weaknesses, expressing his true self to his family, ultimately achieving self-acceptance. Isabela and Luisa, through conversations and understanding with their family members, rediscover self-acceptance and acceptance of their family members. From a family therapy perspective, this study explores how conflicts arising from different values among family members can be resolved, highlighting the importance of establishing communication channels that involve listening to each other's voices and respecting differences. This study suggests that “Encanto” inspires viewers to embrace their imperfections, learn to understand value differences within the family, and foster healing and genuine harmony in the family through vivid storytelling and character development. |
