Abstract:	我們為何要閱讀經典？經典對於現代人有何意義？此一思考本身即帶有現代性的特徵，因此當代在詢問「我們為何要閱讀經典？」所引發的思考，理應與傳統對此一問題的答案有所不同。因此本文的研究目的在於考察中國近代思想史上對於實施經典教育的種種話語與敘事脈絡，希望經由這樣的反思，能使此時此刻的我們與此問題間的對話更順暢地展開。本文將透過現代史上構成了知識合法性的兩大基本歷史敘事：「救亡」與「啟蒙」，來觀察經典如何被論述出其正當性。並依此考察統治者如何運用「讀經運動」來鞏固文化主導權，以及因前者而引發的反對力量，這股力量將經典斥之為反動、保守。最終，我們將試圖理解經典如何成為國府當局意圖規訓人民的工具。本文希望藉由這些層次的考察，釐清一些現代人對中國經典的基本態度。
