Recently several cities have started to deliberate about the urban redevelopment forms that consider the fabric of region. Examining the development experiences in many southern cities in Taiwan, there are several inappropriate developments that result in blurred urban fabric and monotonous landscapes. Therefore, how to renovate becomes an important issue. Research intends to find the natural structure to renovate it, and integrate with the imaginings of region life in the meantime. The topography and terrain can be acquired from the fortress maps in the early Period of Japanese colonial rule. In consideration of a lack of the imaginings of region life (includes industry activities, etc.), researcher attempts to take the maps of occupation categories as a medium for investigation and study. Overlaying the maps of occupation categories with cadastral maps and calibrating can acquire more correct land information. Next, Overlaying with aerial photos and topographic maps can obtain information about location of major buildings, topography context, and the categories of occupation. Furthermore, it can also analyze the industrial clusters and occupation statistics through applying the information that above-mentioned in GIS. On the other hand, the urban development history at present still confine to the historical documents and photos in being. For this reason, this project aims at the followings:1. This project would supplement the urban development official data at present with the location and clusters of civil industries, analyze the relationship between life and environment, and propose the new viewpoint of urban development. 2. Research intends to establish the own Taiwanese urban development history with local space imaginings through the maps of occupation categories in GIS, oral interviews, and field investigation. 3. This project would not only establish the urban development history, but also transform lots of historical documents into digital images, and operate in practical planning.
