Discoursing the touring operation of Taiwan under Japanese reign, we deal not only with the contact of ethnic groups, but also with comprehensive analysis of social structure, the changes of culture, the debates of champ, and the dialogue of power. Viewing from point of hierarchy existed in Taiwan under Japanese reign, the colonial tourism of Taiwan was linked with the Greater Asian Co-prosperity Sphere, a colonial invasion policy of the Japanese Empire. In this research, the tourism which I have referred not simply defined those people migrating from place A to place B, doing activities for the enjoyment of leisure, but indicating a power of relationship. That was not a simple relationship between those exerting the power and those ruled by it. Behind the domination, there were comprehensive structures of knowledge, history, politics, economics, society and the interactions between various fields. Therefore, such interactive structures emerged for operating colonial tourism can be called the re-production of culture. We want to investigate, when Taiwan was colonized by Japan, what’s the way Japanese gaze on land and people of Taiwan. The consciousness of such problematic activates my motivation for this study. Plenty of descriptions and traveling literatures written by the colonial power, quoted by author of “Orientalism” , professor Edward Said, could de-construct the perspective of the hierarchical orders under the colonial power. To adopt his tactics as my research method, through literatures of colonial tourism written by the Japanese, we can explain the mechanism of a dominating power, as one of my aims for this study. Therefore, the imagery of a southern country and the imagery of the Taiwanese aboriginals would constitute the common Taiwan imagery of colonial tourism under Japanese reign, which is the production of knowledge about the settlement of Taiwan invented by the colonial offices of Japan, its cultural elites and the ordinary Japanese people. This article aims at deconstructing Taiwan imagery of colonial tourism under Japanese reign to prove that the symbolic violence of its operation of power is existed everywhere. View from point of the constructing of accomplice, Japanese domination and oppression is very pervasive, since domination of the aboriginals and women in colonial tourism was progressively increasing. The cultural re-production emerged out of colonial tourism in Taiwan under the reign of Japan can be called the structure of accomplice, which was dominated by multi-pressures including colonialism, tourism, ethnics and gender. The culture of colonial tourism emerged from the foresaid re-production of multi-pressures and accomplice, which would bring to the imagery of Taiwan as a reflection of the discourse and imagination of E. Said’s Orientalism.
